Alte Münze

The Alte Münze is a cultural quarter in the heart of the city between the Rotes Rathaus and Fischerinsel. The once derelict industrial site is now a public cultural and creative location with a constantly improving quality of life. Various projects such as the community café The Greens, which opened in 2018, the pizzeria Moneta, founded in 2022, the Münzgarten urban gardening project and the greening and landscaping of the inner courtyard are helping to transform the Alte Münze into an urban creative oasis. In the midst of all this, there are various studio projects as well as music and sound studios, which, under the title contemporary opportunities, represent a creative and process-open anchor point for the liberal arts at the location.
These organically grown structures, which are based on solidarity, ecological and economic sustainability and process openness, act as cornerstones for art in Berlin’s public space into the future. These pillars are in turn based on three constitutive concepts: open space, culture and events. An important part of the Alte Münze’s existence is to preserve open spaces in the city center and make them available to the public and culture at an affordable price. Theater and performance, music of all genres and club events, visual arts and literature find creative and presentation spaces here.
